Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn… so many choices, how much can one person really handle! This is a constant dilemma for those of us involved with Social Networking. I came across this post from social networking expert Starr Hall, titled “TOP MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WITH SOCIAL NETWORKING”
1) They don’t keep sites and posts current, they only go on a few times a week or even worse a month. If you arent serious about growing your brand or business then get off the site and go back when you are.
2) They are on the wrong social networking sites or they have incorrect net-i-quette or messaging.
3) They do panic marketing and over extend their giveaways and free advice. You need to set boundaries in giving free advice and make sure at a set point that you ask for the business.
4) Instead of building rapport and credibility first, they sales pitch and push products and services.

I think these are all great tips, and I would also like to add:
5) Choose the right social network for the right reason. Generally speaking, LinkedIn is for your professional network, and Facebook and MySpace are for your personal network. I don’t know about you, but when I’m invited to be a professional acquaintance’s Facebook friend, I really don’t want to see the pictures of the party they were at last summer!
